Let's face it….quizzes have been around for a long time!

And I am not talking about the quizzes you took in high school.

I am talking about those quizzes you find in magazines like Redbook.

Fun quizzes that made you think, “wow, my eating habits suck,” according to this quiz… or “I am not ready for that yet!” They are just fun quizzes with no real purpose.

And with the invention of the internet came digital quizzes.

People Love Them

People Share Them

People think they are a fun way to spend their time.

There are so many apps that create quizzes nowadays, and you will see them everywhere on Social Media sites like Facebook, and I am sure you have taken a quiz at some point of one kind or another. 🙂

But the main reason I love quizzes? If you create a custom quiz that captures your audience's attention and interest…they are a GREAT way to engage your target customer and market your business.

On average, quizzes have a 50% conversion rate…. which with cold traffic that is AMAZING. This makes quizzes one of the cheaper conversions for paid advertising. It is a great way to build your email list and to build brand recognition. And that is not even taking into consideration the sales you can make on the backend.

Websites like Buzzfeed have built their reputation and become massively popular through their quizzes.

Why do Quizzes work in marketing?

There are 3 Reasons I find that quizzes work:

  1. Entertaining
  2. Engaging
  3. Shareable

Qzzr, a software creator for quizzes, recently reported a 330% month-on-month growth rate. BuzzSumo has found that 82% of users will take part in a quiz if they see it on their social newsfeed. That is a crazy conversion rate!

Buzzfeed's quiz ” Can We Guess Your Age Based On How Many Disney Movies You've Seen In Theaters?” has been taken by over 500,000 people in less than 3 months!

5 Reasons to Use Quizzes in Your Marketing

1. Quizzes are Engaging

Interactive content is engaging…

Quizzes are addictive.

Quizzes seem to have their way of drawing people in.

Think about some of the quizzes you have taken. Maybe you saw them in your Facebook feed; maybe your friend took the quiz. Something about the quiz title stopped you from whatever you were doing on social media and you took the quiz.

You passively watch videos.
You might skim a blog post.
You look at images.

But with a quiz, you actually have to take a moment and think about each answer. You have to actively get involved when taking a quiz, so you actually interact with the content.

2. Quizzes Use Gamification

Quizzes add the elements of a game to make it fun. Adding gamification can make even the most boring things fun!

Maybe every day you must do the same 10 tasks, it is mundane and boring. But if you make a game out of it, perhaps trying to set a record time to complete them each day. It turns ordinary into fun and exciting.

Quizzes are fun and exciting.
The game element creates motivation.
We perform better when we have fun.

It has been proven repeatedly that people also perform better with motivation or an incentive.

You might be asking yourself, what is the incentive of taking a quiz? Ugh, quite simple…. the results ? They want to know what their results are!

3. Quizzes Are About You!

Quizzes not only ask about yourself, but they also evaluate your personality and tell you something about yourself.

There are several types of quizzes, but they really boil down to 2 types:

  1. Informational quiz testing your skills or your knowledge.
  2. Quizzes geared toward personality types.

Personality quizzes might be something like:

  • How many of these foods do you dislike?
  • What kind of drinker are you?
  • What is your Love Language?
  • Would you rather….?
  • How old are you mentally?

Informational quizzes testing your skill might be something like:

  • How much do you know about email marketing?
  • How many Disney movies have you watched?
  • How well do you know the world?
  • How much do you know about eating healthy?

Both of these types of quizzes tell you something about yourself. Both kinds of quizzes appeal very highly to the nature of social media and the internet's information-seeking side in general.

4. Quizzes Go Viral

Online quizzes are shared like crazy and often go viral.

This is because of the engagement and gamification mentioned above and because they're perfectly designed for social media.

A good quiz is quick and easy to take. (less than 60 seconds) And you get results within a minute of starting.

Quizzes present immediate outcomes to their takers. As soon as you finish a quiz, it calculates your results. You get immediate satisfaction, and this is what leads most people to share on social media. Your quizzes should give the option of sharing results on social media as soon as they are completed.

And who doesn't want to share their amazing results with their friends? It is kind of a kind of brag or fun with your friends,” I got this result what do you get?”

Remember getting your quiz results back in school after that hard surprise quiz? “I can't believe I got an A on that quiz I was so not ready for; what did you get?”

It is natural to want to share with your friends and ask them their results.

Shared quizzes on social media are GREAT conversation starters.

Your quiz will start to go viral when people compare their results and discuss with each other, which means more engagement with the content.

6. Grow Your Email List

Most of the quizzes I have created over the years have resulted in a 50% or more opt-in rate for cold traffic. That is a HUGE percentage for cold traffic and a GREAT way to grow your email list.

Quizzes are a great way to bring people into your sales funnel,

Simply get them to follow you on social media or signup for your email list after taking the quiz. And then start your funnel to convert them to sales. ?

Most quiz platforms offer the option of forcing quiz takers to sign up to see their results.

Another option is to provide a free incentive for taking the quiz; at the end of the quiz, after seeing their results, which would ask for their email address.

Both options work very well in growing your email list!

Another Bonus is you can collect data

You can fashion your quizzes in such a way that they become a tool for gathering data about your target market.

Create a quiz that asks questions about your ideal client's opinions, but also tells you how they shop, what they like in a product, what they're looking for, what brands they love, and so on.
